Christopher Yancey was found with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital when police responded to a ShotSpotter alert near the 1200 block of North Potomac Street on Saturday, March 16. He had turned 21 just 11 days beforehand.

A GoFundMe launched by his older sister, Tykiara, described her loving brother as “brilliant, intelligent, outgoing and outspoken.”

“Chris Loved His Family & Friends And Always Showed Up For Everybody,” she writes.

More than $500 had been raised as of Friday, March 22 with proceeds supporting Christopher’s memorial, which was scheduled for April 5 at Calvin B. Scruggs Funeral Home.

“I’m Coming Today On Behalf Of Me And My Family To Ask If Anybody Has Anything To Donate So That We Can Celebrate Chris The Right Way,” writes Tykiara.
